Outdoor pickleball comes to Avon

AVON — The town of Avon Parks and Recreation Department has completed its work on improving Nottingham Park’s west side tennis courts, including two new pickleball courts. The courts were resurfaced and painted, and new nets and repaired fencing completed the project.

The town has offered indoor pickleball in the elementary school, but now boasts outdoor play as well to its list of recreational activities at the park. Pickleball is a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. This court game can be compared to tennis but the movement of the pickleball is slower and the court is smaller than a tennis court. This sport was played typically in the backyard, but there are an ever increasing number of courts being constructed to meet the needs of an ever-growing number of players.

There is no need to reserve the courts — they are available on a first-come first-served basis and are located at the west side of Nottingham Park at Avon Elementary School; parking is available there.
