• What’s new or exciting at your place?
As most small business owners know, life has changed since the advent of the Internet. Double that for the travel industry. We have had to compete with the Internet for our customers’ business. And that is a big competitor.
The Internet now is inundated with overwhelming quantity of false information and card fraud. Our clients are again using the expertise of personal advice. We stand behind what we sell. We do not sell your information. We have errors and omissions insurance in case anything goes wrong.
We are here for you if there are any problems. Can the Internet say that? Try to call Expedia to get help if you are stuck at an airport with delays or mixed connections.
We have closed our location in Edwards. We are now located at our individual home/office locations. We can now be reached practically any time, day or night or weekends via email and phone. The main number for Overland Express now is directed to our cell phones. Now, we are that much more available to you.
• What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition?
Since our competition is the Internet, this is an easy question to answer: When you book a hotel on the Internet, who are you going to call if you are sharing a room with bed bugs?
• What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you?
Our customers can expect service. We have been in business since 1971. You can depend on us to be there.
• What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened?
When we first opened our travel agency, I was at my desk helping Rod Slifer with planning a trip. My husband and I had been trying to adopt a baby for years.
I received a phone call from the Colorado adoption service telling me that they had a little girl for us. I asked Slifer if another agent could assist him as I had just become a mother! By the way, her name is Sarah.
