VAIL — Vail Health Services, one of the two volunteer boards that govern the nonprofit Vail Valley Medical Center, elected Michael Shannon as its new chairman. Former chairman Ron Davis will now lead the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation.
“The medical center and our community are fortunate to have Mike and Ron donate their time and energy to lead our organization and I’m grateful for Ron’s dedicated service as a board member for over a decade,” said Doris Kirchner, president and CEO of Vail Valley Medical Center. “I’m looking forward to working closely with them to fulfill our mission of providing superior health services with compassion and excellent outcomes.”
Shannon has served on the board at Vail Valley Medical Center for three years before being elected as chairman. Shannon co-founded KSL Capital Partners in 2004 and co-founded its predecessor, KSL Recreation Corporation, in 1992, serving as its president and CEO. Shannon also served as president and CEO of Vail Associates from 1986 to 1992. He currently serves on the board of trustees of Northwestern University, the Vail Valley Foundation and the United States Ski and Snowboard Association.
“Vail Valley Medical Center is a cornerstone of this community, and I’m honored to help lead our board,” said Michael Shannon, new chairman of the Vail Health Services Board. “VVMC is an internationally recognized hospital with unmatched services for a rural community and together we’ll work to ensure VVMC stays a nonprofit, independent hospital serving our community and guests.”
Shannon follows Ron Davis, who served as chairman of the Vail Valley Medical Center Board from 2006 to 2010 and chair of the Vail Health Services Board since 2010. Davis will continue to volunteer his time as the chairman of the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation.
“Support from our passionate and generous community has helped build Vail Valley Medical Center over the past 50 years. I am excited about our vision for the future and will work to make sure our locals, second-home owners and guests continue to have the medical facilities they want and deserve,” said Ron Davis, chairman of the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation.
Davis devotes much of his time providing leadership in nonprofit endeavors and is chairman of Davis Capital, a private equity investment company. Davis founded The Perrier Group of America in 1979, which became the dominant industry leader before selling it in 1992 and retiring in 1994. Davis is passionate about healthcare as well as the Guardian Scholars Program for disadvantaged foster youth, which he founded in 1997 and has watched it help thousands of deserving students.
