Eagle County senior community calendar

Upcoming events

Today: Eagle County Caregiver Support Group, 4:30-6 p.m. Eagle River Presbyterian Church. Call Pat at 970-328-8831 for more information.

Wednesday: Senior dining group lunch at Gobi in Edwards, 12:30 p.m. Join a group of seniors for a fun social lunch. Meet at the restaurant.

Thursday: Strong People progressive weight training class, held every Thursday at the Golden Eagle from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.. $2 suggested donation per class. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

Thursday: Senior Spot presents a card-making class with horticulturist Jackie Clark. Class co-sponsored by the Vail Public Library.

Thursday: Greeting card making workshops are held every Saturday at the Golden Eagle, 2 p.m. Materials provided.

May 19: Senior Spot presents “Matter of Balance” class. This program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels for older adults who have concerns about falling. Located at the Eagle River Presbyterian Church. Class from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Call Bev at 970-331-6626 for more information.

Ongoing weekly activities:

Mondays

• Senior Spot for engaging activities and socialization (must be 55 or older), 1 to 4 p.m. This program is sponsored by Eagle Valley Senior Life. Eagle River Presbyterian Church, across from Wal-Mart.

• Full body fitness exercise class, 9 to 10 a.m. at the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle. A full body workout incorporating both seated and standing activities. Variety will be offered with hand weights, resistance tubing/bands, circuit training, balance and coordination challenges, and cardiovascular training. Suggested donation of $2 per class. Tuesdays

• Senior lunch, noon at the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle, $3 suggested donation for people 60 or older. Home pick-ups and drop-offs are available. Call 970-328-8896 for reservations and information.

• Tai Chi for balance class, 10 a.m. at the Golden Eagle Senior Center through May 27. $15 for eight-week session or $2 drop-in rate.

• Seated stretch and strengthen exercise class, 11 a.m. to noon at the Golden Eagle Senior Center. A fully seated class, incorporating general stretching and strengthening for both upper and lower extremities. Hand weights and resistance tubing/bands will be incorporated, as will seated balance activities to help engage the core. There will be some limited cardiovascular work in this class as well. Suggested donation of $2 per class. Call 328-8896 for more information.

• Non-medical foot care (toenail trimming and foot soaks) at the Golden Eagle Senior Center. Third Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Call 970-328-8896 to sign up for a spot.

• Transportation for errands (bank, post office, etc.). Bus leaves the Golden Eagle at 2 p.m. for this service. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

• Joint Relief Water Class, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Avon Recreation Center. $2 per class. Call 970-328-8831 for more information.

• Water aerobics class, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Gypsum Recreation Center. $5 drop in rate. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

Wednesdays

• Senior lunch, 11:30 a.m. at VSSA/ Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center. $2 per meal for those 60 or older. Home pick-ups and drop-offs are available, depending on location. Call 970-328-8831 for reservations and more information.

• Nordic Walking at Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center, 10 a.m. Walking poles provides. Cost: Free.

• Chair Yoga at Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center, 11 a.m. Free.

• Grocery shopping, bus leaves Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center at 12:30 p.m.

• Third Friday of every month: Poetry Group at the Eagle Public Library, 10:30 a.m.

• Fourth Friday of every month: BINGO at the Golden Eagle Senior Center, 1 p.m.
