Electronics recycling event comes to Vail on Friday

VAIL — It’s time to rid your home of those unwanted computers and other electronics. The town of Vail is hosting its annual electronics recycling event in Vail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Paper shredding is also available for residents who wish to shred their confidential documents in an environmentally friendly manner.

The annual “Get the Lead and Gear Out” event takes place at the town of Vail Community Recycling Drop Off Center located behind the Community Development Department, 75 S. Frontage Road. Paper shredding at the same location will also take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All Electronics Accepted

The electronics recycling is provided by Electronic Recyclers International of Denver. ERI disassembles the electronics into its core components with a goal of 100 percent recycling. ERI ensures data security by physically destroying the hard drive and will provide a certificate guaranteeing the destruction of the disk. This service is 20 cents per pound, typically $5 per computer or small printer; $10 for monitors up to 17 inches and larger printers; very large items may cost more; there is no charge to recycle keyboards and other accessories with a computer. All electronic items — anything with a plug — will be accepted, including cell phones.

To learn more about the process and ERI visit www.electronicrecyclers.com. If your laptop or hard drive is in good working order and a recent model, then you may donate your device to the Minturn Community Fund at no charge. Representatives will be on hand to pick up the items.

Paper Shredding

The paper shredding is provided by Paper Wise of Glenwood Springs at $10 per box. The paper will be shredded on-site and will then be transported to be composted or recycled. All paper is 100 percent recycled. To learn more about Paper Wise visit www.paperwise.net.
