Eagle County senior community calendar

Upcoming events

• Today: Tina Wells from Alzheimer’s Association will speak on “Long Distance Caregiving” at the monthly Caregiver Support Group meeting 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Eagle River Presbyterian Church. Call 970-328-8831 for more information.

• Today: 11 exercise class canceled today and next Tuesday, July 15, at the Golden Eagle Senior Center.

• Thursday: Rhythm for Life dance class at the Golden Eagle Senior Center. 11 a.m. $5 per person. This class helps with balance, agility and coordination. Easy paced — most moves can be done seated. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

• Friday: Lunch at the Turntable instead of the Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center, 11:30 a.m. Call 970-328-8831 to reserve a spot. $2 per person.

• Friday: Avon Public Library will bring a selection of interesting large print books and audio books, DVDs to the Turntable at 11.

• July 15: Trip to Tennessee Pass cabin for historic tour and lunch. Call 970-328-8831 to make a reservation.

Ongoing weekly activities

Mondays

• Senior Spot for engaging activities and socialization (must be 55 or older), 1 to 4 p.m. This program is sponsored by Eagle Valley Senior Life. Eagle River Presbyterian Church, across from Wal-Mart in Avon.

• Full body fitness exercise class, 9 to 10 a.m. at the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle. A full body workout incorporating both seated and standing activities. Variety will be offered with hand weights, resistance tubing/bands, circuit training, balance and coordination challenges and cardiovascular training. Suggested donation of $2 per class. Tuesdays

• Senior lunch, noon at the Golden Eagle Senior Center in Eagle, $3 suggested donation for diners 60 or older. Home pick-ups and drop-offs are available. Call 970-328-8896 for reservations and information.

• Seated stretch and strengthen exercise class, 11 a.m. to noon at the Golden Eagle Senior Center. A fully seated class, incorporating general stretching and strengthening for both upper and lower extremities. Hand weights and resistance tubing/bands will be incorporated, as will seated balance activities to help engage the core. There will be some limited cardiovascular work in this class as well. Suggested donation of $2 per class. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

• Afternoon card game, 1 p.m.

• Transportation for errands (bank, post office, etc.). Bus leaves the Golden Eagle at 2 p.m. for this service. Call 970-328-8896.

• Joint Relief Water Class, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Avon Recreation Center. $2 per class. Call 970-328-8831 for more information.

• Water aerobics class, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Gypsum Recreation Center. $5 drop in rate. Call 970-328-8896 for more information

Wednesdays

• Senior lunch, 11:30 a.m. at VSSA/ Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center. $2 per meal for those 60 or older. Home pick-ups and drop-offs are available, depending on location. Call 970-328-8831 for reservations.

• Nordic Walking at Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center, 10 a.m. Walking poles provides. Cost: Free.

• Chair Yoga at Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center, 11 a.m. Free.

• Grocery shopping, bus leaves Maloit Park Senior Wellness Center at 12:30 p.m.

• Afternoon card game, 1 p.m.

• Non-medical foot care (toenail trimming and foot soaks) at the Golden Eagle Senior Center — third Thursday of each month from 9 a.m.– 12 p.m. Call 970-328-8896 to sign up for a spot.

• Senior crochet group, 1 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Senior Center. Are you looking for a fun group of ladies to crochet with and learn new techniques? This is the group for you!

• Grocery shopping, bus leaves the Golden Eagle at 1 or 2 p.m., depending on shopping location. Call 970-328-8896 for more information.

• Fourth Friday of every month: Bingo at the Golden Eagle, 1 p.m.
