BEAVER CREEK — Rally4 has joined forces with Xterra to raise funds and awareness for The Cycle Effect, whose mission is to enhance the lives of young women through mountain biking, at this year’s Xterra Mountain Championship on July 19 and 20 at Beaver Creek.
The organizations will showcase the positive impact The Cycle Effect is having on Eagle and Summit County youth to the like-minded crowd at Xterra with one-on-one and group meetings at the event expo, and will be fully integrated into the race atmosphere by manning aid stations, volunteering, helping with the kids races and sharing their success stories.
The Cycle Effect is currently working with more than 40 female high school students in the Eagle and Summit counties. Started in 2010 by Brett Donelson, The Cycle Effect provides young women the opportunity to learn about nutrition, improve their fitness and build their self-esteem through mountain bike riding and competitive races.
Beyond the Sport
“The impacts that The Cycle Effect has on the lives of the young women on our teams are innumerable,” Donelson said. “Beyond the obvious and immediate impacts of better physical fitness, nutritional awareness and academic performance are more subtle and long-term impacts. Of those the most important is a dramatic increase in self-confidence, which leads to setting and achieving life goals that the girls may never have dreamt possible before they joined The Cycle Effect. We have girls who are now attending college and choosing career paths never accessible to them before. That ‘awakening,’ so to speak, is the part of our mission that transcends riding mountain bikes.”
The Cycle Effect is teaming up with Rally4 to raise funds to help double the number of young women who participate in their program in 2014 and into 2015. The Cycle Effect, along with Rally4, will be at the Xterra Expo at the Xterra Mountain Championship, which will include a championship race, sprint race and trail runs. The Xterra Expo will be open from 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. on July 19 and from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. on July 20. There will be a meet and greet with Tamara Donelson at 10 a.m. on July 19. Donelson is a former world champion and pro Xterra athlete.
There will also be a meet and greet with Jaime Brede at 1 p.m. on July 19. Brede is an Xterra elite athlete and pro mountain biker.
