Road work under way in Vail

VAIL — Road improvements are under way on 7.7 miles of the Frontage roads in the town of Vail. The Colorado Department of Transportation project consists of milling off the old roadway and replacing it with new asphalt, curb ramp improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and guardrail replacement. The project begins at mile marker 172.2 and extends to mile marker 179.9.

Both North and South Frontage roads will see intermittent left and right lane closures, including both the West Vail and Main Vail roundabouts. Construction hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon on Friday. No weekend hours are scheduled at this time. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph through the work zone, with the exception of Ma Bell Road, which is reduced to 20 mph. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians should pay attention to work zone signs and flaggers.

Elam Construction Inc., of Grand Junction, is the contractor for the $3.1 million project. It is scheduled for completion in October.
