Young professionals group elects new president, officers

VAIL — After two years establishing a presence in the community, the Vail Valley Young Professionals Association recently elected new officers.

Travis Coggin was elected president, succeeding Dan Reynolds. Patti Liermann was elected vice president, taking over for Michael Holton. Miki Barros remains secretary and Sara Fahrney retained the position of treasurer.

Dan Reynolds, partner at RKV Law, was the first president and founder of the Vail Valley Young Professionals Association.

“There’s such a talented group of young professionals spread across this valley,” Reynolds said. “We needed an organization to bring everyone together, not only for networking and development, but also to encourage this diverse crowd to establish roots in our community.”

With more than 200 members, the young professionals group has monthly events, including speaker panels, local business tours, volunteer opportunities, networking happy hours and a year-end holiday party.

“This community is changing dramatically and we need to equip our young professionals to be the future of the valley,” Coggin said. “Eagle County has gone from a couple thousand people to over 52,000 in the past 50 years, and that includes spreading out and dividing our workforce. (The association) tries to reconnect and localize our people.”

Coggin went to Vail Mountain School before attending the University of Colorado. After a few years as a Vail ski patroller, Coggin attended the university’s Leeds School of Business. He is currently the director of operations for Ascent Sotheby’s International Realty in Vail.

The next event for association members is team participation in Pink Vail on March 21. Pink Vail is the world’s biggest ski day to conquer cancer, benefiting Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards.

Founded in 2013, the Vail Valley Young Professionals Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting a young, dynamic, professional community in the Vail Valley by providing opportunities in business development, networking, community awareness and community involvement. Annual membership is $65. Learn more at http://www.vvypa.com.
