Vail’s annual cleanup set for May 15

VAIL — The Town of Vail will once again combine its community clean up with charitable contributions when the annual event returns on Friday, May 15. The first 100 participants will be awarded $25 to distribute to one of many area non-profits approved by the Vail Town Council. The charitable contributions have been used to help build community pride and involvement in the 30-plus year-old event. Local groups and organizations are being asked to contact the town in advance to make arrangements to participate.

Volunteers will meet at the top of the Lionshead parking structure for check in starting at 9 a.m. All participating volunteers will be treated to free complimentary NY style, hand-tossed pizza and beverages donated by Blue Moose Pizza at the Arrabelle at Vail Square beginning at noon.

Free dumpsters to dispose of large items such as bed springs and small furniture will be available in two locations from Thursday, May 14 through Monday, May 18, courtesy of Vail Honeywagon. The locations are the East Vail Interchange park and ride lot and the North Trail lot in West Vail. Freezers or refrigerators will not be accepted, but can be taken to the Eagle County Landfill for recycling provided any Freon is removed.

Large item pickup, with the exception of mattresses and couches, will be offered by the town on Thursday, May 14. Please call the Public Works Department at 970-479-2158 to schedule a pickup.

Disposal of hazardous materials and electronic waste is not permitted by law, but may be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Eagle County Landfill in Wolcott. Furniture in good condition may be taken to the Habitat for Humanity Store in Gypsum, or the Thrifty Shoppe in Edwards.
