AVON — The Youth Leaders Council has been named the beneficiary for the 13th Annual Evans Chaffee Construction Group Kickball Classic and Pancake Breakfast. The event will be held Aug. 9 at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion.
Established in 2006, the Youth Leaders Council provides an opportunity for youth to cultivate community change. Students serve in advisory roles for various community initiatives while gaining leadership skills and completing service learning projects.
In 2013-2014, the Youth Leaders Council consists of 26 local youth representing six area high schools. Students foster rapport and team building skills through an annual retreat and monthly engagements.
“Choosing a beneficiary is never an easy task, as every candidate is worthy of needed support,” said Jessica Halminski, of Evans Chaffee. “This year, we feel that by naming the Youth Leaders Council as our beneficiary, we are helping a program that focuses on preparing our youth and our community for success. It goes without saying that young people are the future of our communities. Therefore, it is vitally important that they are vested with the knowledge, skills and abilities to be the next generation of local leaders.”
Past beneficiaries of the Evans Chaffee Kickball Classic and Pancake Breakfast include the Eagle County Women’s and Children’s Shelter, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), First Descents kayak camp for young adults with cancer, Small Champions, and SummerQuest. Past events have successfully raised several thousands of dollars thanks to kickball teams competing, and generous donations from community groups and individuals.
