EAGLE COUNTY — On Tuesday, Avon police officers and Eagle County sheriff’s deputies arrested Edwards resident John Benjamin Hernreich, 25, on suspicion of a string of graffiti taggings that occurred during the past year in Eagle County.

The service of a search and arrest warrant at the suspect’s Edwards residence resulted in Hernreich being booked into the Eagle County Detention Facility for 39 counts of second degree criminal tampering and one count of felony criminal mischief. Hernreich is suspected of painting graffiti and tagging the moniker “Sparo” on public properties from Vail to Camp Hale and up and down the Interstate 70 corridor.

“The Vail Valley is a magnificent place and the vandalism that has occurred at the hands of this graffiti tagger certainly displayed a poor visual image for our community and cost the public tens of thousands of dollars in clean-up,” said Avon Police Chief Robert L. Ticer. “This investigation and arrest is another fine example of local law enforcement working collaboratively to solve crimes.”
