Asian Village Antiques in Edwards hosts jewelry trunk show

Tuesday through Friday, Asian Village Antiques in Edwards hosts a trunk show featuring 30-year Vail Valley resident Tess Backhus’ new collection.

The recent Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon, the Bravo Gala and the upcoming Women’s Foundation of Colorado Luncheon showcase jewelry by Backhus. Donated by Asian Village in Riverwalk in Edwards, Backhus’ creations have evolved into four distinct collections, a tour de force for a single designer.

The collection includes “Not-Your-Grandmother’s Pearls,” “Ancient Ones” with coral, turquoise, chalcedony, Roman glass, bone and burnished metals; and “Earth Palette” with agates, quartz and other natural stones. New to the collection are Tess’s multi-strand “Stone Chains,” gold vermeil and silver chains ranging from delicate to bold, punctuated by stones and metals. Backhus also designs pieces easily layered with necklaces and bracelets that women wear everyday. She expanded her earring line to include “statement lengths” and imaginative uses of pearls, stones, bone, vintage pieces and metals.

“A showing with Tess is always fun,” said Asian Village co-owner Susan Bristol. “With sophisticated clients worldwide, she loves sharing her designs, centered around our relaxed Colorado lifestyle and Earth’s gifts. She has a sixth-sense about new looks that move us out of the box. Finally, each of Tess’s pieces is unique, suited to what she believes is a ‘designated wearer.'”

Bristol and UnChu Ring, owners and curators of Asian Village, invite the public to meet Backhus Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
