AVON — If you’ve ever thought about participating in a multi-sport event but were afraid to take the plunge, the sixth annual BecTri Duathlon Run-Bike-Run is for you. Organizers have taken water out of the equation and for this year only the BecTri will be a duathlon. Registration is available at http://www.bectri.com for this Aug. 3 event.

Participate as an individual or bring some friends and form a team. The race begins with a run or jog out of the park and along the Eagle River. Runners or their team members then mount bikes for a ride through the Singletree neighborhood. Lastly, there is a short run or walk to the finish in Nottingham Park. Friends and family are welcome to join in for a day of fun in the park and to cheer on participants. There will be music, a silent auction and hopefully, some beautiful weather.

This race is held in memory of Rebecca Lynn Yarberry, a local triathlete and friend who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2007. Starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 3, this event honors Becky’s spirit by fostering a race environment that is encouraging to everyone, regardless of skill level. Becky had a generous heart, a loving spirit, and was passionate about charitable causes. Two non-profit organizations, Vail Valley Charitable Fund and CURE International, are the beneficiaries of race proceeds.

The event includes a challenge for athletes of all levels, so go to Avon on Aug. 3 at Nottingham Park for the sixth annual BecTri Duathlon Run-Bike-Run. Registration and more event information is available online at http://www.bectri.com.
