BEAVER CREEK-With the 2011-12 ski season off to a great start, the perfect opportunity to celebrate winter is just around the corner as the 2011 Audi FIS Birds of Prey World Cup Race Week brings its Public Bib Party on Saturday evening, immediately following the Eddie Bauer Mountain Jam in Beaver Creek.
The festivities will get underway at 3 p.m. with the Eddie Bauer Mountain Jam in the heart of Beaver Creek Village. Family activities will include free ice skating and ice games on the Black Family Ice Rink, DJ Mo’ Rockin’, a photo booth, free hot chocolate, concessions, plenty of Eddie Bauer swag, as well as a 2011-2012 Epic Season Pass giveaway.
The party will then move to the Vilar Performing Arts Center at 5 p.m. for the second half of the evening as the top Giant Slalom racers in the world, including reigning World Cup Giant Slalom champion Ted Ligety, prepare to receive their race bibs for Sunday’s competition. The U.S. Ski Team will be on hand for an autograph session, slated to get underway at 5 p.m., with the World Cup bib presentation on tap for 6 p.m. Along the way, there will be additional giveaways, including another 2011-2012 Epic Season Pass, courtesy of Vail Resorts.
The evening’s celebration will conclude with a special free screening of a vintage Warren Miller ski film, 1979’s “Winter Fever.” Participants are reminded of the theater’s 530-seat capacity so plan on getting there early to ensure a seat for the bib presentation and the free film.
“We have a great family evening planned,” said Michael Imhof, vice president of sales and operations for the Vail Valley Foundation. “I would encourage everyone to come early and stay late as this will not only be a tremendous way to join in the party that is the 2011 Audi FIS Birds of Prey World Cup Race Week, but it will also provide a wonderful evening of activities for the entire family.”
The 2011 Audi FIS Birds of Prey World Cup Race Week officially kicked off Tuesday, while the highly anticipated Birds of Prey Downhill takes center stage on Friday. Super-G racing action is on tap for Saturday, while the Birds of Prey World Cup Race Week will conclude with Sunday’s Giant Slalom. Beaver Creek Resort will host Apres on the Plaza on Friday and Sunday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. with free music and concessions.
