Bush wins state House seat
November 7, 2012
EAGLE, Colorado – Democrat Diane Mitsch Bush will represent Eagle County in Colorado’s House of Representatives.
The Steamboat Springs resident and Routt County commissioner defeated Republican Chuck McConnell, also of Steamboat Springs.
Bush will represent Eagle and Routt counties in Colorado’s new House District 26 in the state’s House of Representatives.
“I’m so honored and so humbled. It’s a sacred trust they’ve placed in me and I’ll represent all the people of Eagle and Routt counties,” Bush said from her victory party at Sweetwater Grill in Steamboat Springs.
The chase for the House District 26 seat put more than 10,000 miles on her Prius.
Over thousands of miles she has met thousands of people. She has been in Eagle County every week since January and made lots and lots of new friends, she said. She’s been in Eagle County for the past seven days, canvassing neighborhoods and campaigning.
“Both Eagle and Routt counties are marvelous mountain counties and there are many similarities, but we have our unique facets as well,” Bush said.
Bush captured more than 60 percent of the vote in Routt County and was up by more than 800 votes in Eagle County at press time.
She has to be at the Capitol on Thursday for orientation to talk about issues.
On Saturday and Sunday the Democrats are getting together in Keystone to discuss issues and plan strategy.
Routt County Democrats will now have to choose a replacement for Bush on that county’s board of county commissioners.
Bush vowed that unlike other state lawmakers who have resigned after being elected to represent Eagle County in the state Capitol, she would not quit.
“I’m not a quitter and I’m not quitting,” she said. “The people of Eagle and Routt counties trusted me to represent them and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Bush and McConnell drew clear battle lines in their run to represent Eagle County in Colorado’s House of Representatives.
The two differed on almost everything from government’s role in business to regulation of business and energy industry.
