Crash on Highway 6 kills Edwards resident

EAGLE — An Edwards man died when a concrete pumping truck crossed into the oncoming lane of U.S. Highway 6 and collided head-on with the van he was driving.

Sergio Armando Ordonez Morales, 29, died of multiple injuries he suffered in an accident late last Thursday afternoon.

At about 5:21 p.m., Anthony Chase, 47, was driving a 1991 Mack concrete pumping truck, headed west on Highway 6 between Eagle and Wolcott, according to a report from the Colorado State Patrol.

Chase drifted into the eastbound lane, across a double yellow line and into Morales’ path, according to the report. The concrete pumping truck collided head-on with the 1993 Chevy van Morales was driving, the State Patrol said.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time of the accident.

Both men were transported to the Vail Valley Medical Center, where Morales died. Chase was treated for serious injuries.

Chase has not yet been cited for his part in the crash, said Trooper Nate Reid, public information officer with the State Patrol.

Highway 6 was closed for a couple hours.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash, Reid said.
