Eagle-based artist’s James Van Fossan is taking part in the inaugural, upcoming World of Art Showcase taking place at The Wynn in Las Vegas Dec. 20-22. “Magnum Opus,” a painting of Eagle County dancers Molly Allard, Meredith Steinke, Hannah Green, Alison Casperson, Sophie Dommer and Hailey Vest, is one of 16 paintings on display at the event. Van Fossan is one of a handful of artists asked to paint live at the event.

After working in graphite for years, Van Fossan switched to oil painting.

“Words, like paintings, are used to express our hearts to others. However, a painting can say so much more, and is understood as though it were a universal language,” Van Fossan said. “I paint in a realistic manner simply because I feel my primary goal is to represent truth, reality, and to tell the story. I desire to paint and to speak clearly so that the more important matter of what I am trying to say comes through.”
