Eagle County artists exhibit at international paper conference
October 15, 2012
EDWARDS – Area artists Helen Hiebert and Susan Mackin Dolan will join members of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists, IAPMA, and the Friends of Dard Hunter in Cleveland, Ohio later this month for an international conference hosted by The Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory and Education Foundation. Over two dozen exhibitions around Cleveland will focus on contemporary artists explorations of paper, books and prints.
Hiebert’s work will be in a Members exhibition based on the idea of collapsibility and expansion. Her “Text Ball,” is a five-foot inflated tracing paper construction featuring a rubber stamped Ezra Pound poem: “The book should be a ball of light in one’s hand.”
Dolan’s work “Japan Tribute Papers,” is part of “In The Hot Seat,” an exhibition that considers or confronts issues of social and political importance. Her papers use symbols of various radioactive elements that are being monitored and have been found in the air, soil, water and food products in the areas surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facilities and as far away as San Francisco. The images were made with luminescent paper pulps that glow in the dark after being exposed to light.
