Combining love of reading, running

@ your library

I have loved books and reading for as long as I can remember, and am fortunate to work in the public library, where I have access to a wealth of literature. My other passion is running. This evolved in my adult years, and I give much credit to living in our active community, where running is a popular and contagious pastime.

The Eagle Library’s shelves contain some great books about running – getting started, proper form, nutrition, race training, getting faster, running longer, memoirs by notable runners and more. So whether you run for pleasure or race competitively, are training for your first 5K (3.1 miles) or an ultra-marathon (anything over 26.2 miles), whether you enjoy trails or roads, snowshoeing or running up mountains, there is a book out there for you. In honor of my two favorite activities, I have compiled the following list to share with fellow readers and runners.

Armstrong, Kristen. “Mile markers: the 26.2 most important reasons why women run”

Butler, Sarah Lorge. “Run your butt off!: a breakthrough plan to lose weight and start running (no experience necessary!)”

Daniloff, Caleb. “Running Ransom road: confronting the past, one marathon at a time”

Joyner, Florence Griffith. “Running for dummies”

Karnazes, Dean. Ultramarathon man: confessions of an all-night runner

McDougall, Christopher. “Born to run: a hidden tribe, superathletes, and the greatest race the world has never seen”

McDowell, Dimity. “Run like a mother: how to get moving — and not lose your job, family, or sanity”

Noakes, Timothy D. “Lore of running”

Ostman, Cami. “Second wind: one woman’s midlife quest to run seven marathons on seven continents”

Rodgers, Bill. “Marathon man: My 26.2-mile journey from unknown grad student to the top of the running world”

Stracher, Cameron. “Kings of the road: how Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, and Alberto Salazar made running go boom”

Ulrich, Marshall. “Running on empty: An ultramarathoner’s story of love, loss, and a record-setting run across America”

The Eagle library has all of these titles in its collection. So come check one of these books out if you want to get started running, train for a race, or enhance your running experience. I’ll see you out running – and/or at the library.
