Gypsum urges residents to take CDOT survey
December 9, 2013
The town of Gypsum encourages residents to participate in a Colorado Department of Transportation survey.
CDOT is partnering with the community to solicit input to be used in the development of the Intermountain Colorado Regional Transportation Plan.
"We need to know what's important to you and we'd like your support for a couple of projects that your local community leaders have determined are critical to the future transportation needs for our town and region," said Gypsum Town Engineer Jim Hancock. "The Eagle County Regional Airport Interstate 70 Interchange is designed and ready to construct. It supports all state, regional and local planning efforts, and portends long-term economic benefits for our town and the region."
Hancock said the estimated $75 million price tag for the project puts it out of reach of local and state budgets. There is currently about $5 million available in local funds.
"Getting this project into the plan is important for our efforts to pursue additional funding sources," he said.
U.S. Highway 6 has long been a priority for Gypsum and significant progress has been made through several town-funded and designed projects over the last decade. These include the roundabout, intersection improvements at Valley Road, Oakridge Drive, Jules Drive, and Cooley Mesa Road, and highway widening from Schoolside to Valley Road.
"The Union Pacific Railroad bridge presents a significant and difficult obstacle to continuing highway widening efforts," Hancock said. "This portion of the project will require a substantial infrastructure commitment and involve multiple stakeholders and agencies in project design and permitting."
Gypsum asks residents to go to the following link and complete the survey before Dec. 15:
