Community Spotlight

Name: Tiffany Dougherty

Job: Principal at Eagle Valley Elementary, an IB World School

Lives in: The Orchard neighborhood in Eagle

In high school I was ... I nto drama — the official kind. I enjoyed forensic tournaments for speech and debate, performing in the school musicals and plays, and acting as a witness for the mock trial team, which took me to the state competition level where I won an award as the best witness.

If I was a T-shirt, I would be (fabric, color, any print?)... A school T-shirt that would probably say something like “I (heart) Eagle Valley.”

What’s the best thing about your town? The best thing about Eagle is that it is a true community. I rarely go out without seeing people who I know and getting hugs from students. I also love the free summer concerts and Eagle Flight Days.

The best thing about my job is…. This is the hardest question because there are many great things about being a principal — the students are so bright and engaged, the parents at Eagle Valley Elementary are so supportive and committed to the school, but I have to say that the teachers at EVE are really the best part of my job because their level of professionalism and caring for their students makes my job easy.

As a kid, I always… put together singing groups. We would make wooden microphones in art class and then talk our teachers into letting us go around to other classes to sing. Some of our favorites were Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life,” Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots are Made for Walkin’,” and Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll.”

If I could be any superhero, I’d be.... I would be Wonder Woman because she acts as an ambassador of peace, which really fits with the International Baccalaureate philosophy of EVE. (And she has that really cool invisible plane. Who wouldn’t want one of those?)

If I was given a million dollars, the first thing I’d buy is…. A trip to Ireland for my family.
