Justin Kirkland has been selected as the Gypsum Fire Protection District’s new Chief.
Kirkland started with the GFPD in 2001 and became part of the paid staff in 2004. He began his fire career in 1995 as a volunteer with the Minturn Volunteer Fire Department.
Most recently, Kirkland has served as interim fire chief, following former Chief Dave Vroman’s retirement this past January. Kirkland will lead the department of three full-time and six part-time employees, along with 30 volunteers.
Kirkland’s immediate goals include building partnerships and strengthening existing relationships within the community and with other organizations. The department currently is immersed in creating a three-year strategic plan that will help guide its future.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead a great team in a profession I believe in, and it’s especially nice to be serving in the community in which I grew up,” said Kirkland. “I’m ready to grow, learn, and take on new challenges.”
Kirkland is now raising his own family in Gypsum.
