Vonn cheers on racers
In a role reversal Saturday, Vonn cheered on ski racers competing at Beaver Creek in Vail Resorts’ annual Lindsey Vonn Race Series Event finals.
In addition to participating in the Epic Mix Racing awards, Vonn also cheered on the youth athletes in her Ski Girls Rock program, which wrapped up its 2013-14 season.
Home Town Heroine
M any young fans welcomed Mikaela Shiffrin back to the valley last week. The 19-year-old Eagle-Vail native was welcomed back by hundreds of cheering fans in a gathering that both celebrated her gold medal at the 2014 Olympics and previewed the slalom champion’s 2015 season, which will culminate with the World Championships here in February.
Real estate honors
At its annual kick-off meeting, Mark Weinreich and Laurie Slaughter were named the 2013 Top Producers for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. Weinreich led the company in sales volume while Slaughter garnered the top award for unit sales this past year.

Habitat ReStore success
Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork Valley’s ReStore ranks sixth in the most successful operations nationwide, according to data from Habitat International. That’s despite serving one of the lowest population regions. ReStore of the Roaring Fork Valley has seen considerable growth in the last two years. They opened an annex in Glenwood in August 2012 to accommodate large donations from the Hotel Jerome and Snowmass Club.
A successful undercover operation conducted by Forest Service law enforcement officers resulted in a citation and pending charges against a snowmobile outfitter operating without a permit. Colorado Powersports Rentals posted advertisements for guided trips on snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles in the forest and delivered equipment rentals directly into the forest, with the alleged illegal activity occurring on the Aspen-Sopris, Eagle-Holy Cross and Rifle ranger districts.
