Open enrollment for private health insurance through the state’s health insurance marketplace has ended, but some residents can still get coverage under certain circumstances.
Individuals who experience life changes that impact health insurance may qualify for a 60-day “special enrollment period” to get new coverage through Connect for Health Colorado.
Examples of these types of events include marriage, divorce, having or adopting a child, turning 26 years of age, moving to Colorado, losing health coverage, losing employer-provided coverage, becoming a citizen, and being released from prison or jail. Also, residents who are eligible for programs such as Medicaid or Child Health Plan Plus can sign up year-round.
Those who have experienced a life-changing event and need to update or enroll in coverage are invited to join local Connect for Health Colorado health coverage guides for an informational session to ask questions and receive application assistance. The local assistance event is planned Friday, May 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the guides, who can answer questions and provide personalized enrollment assistance. All health coverage guides are bilingual in English and Spanish. Those who are unable to attend an informational session can make individual appointments by contacting the health coverage guide closest to them. In Eagle, the contact is Maricela Pinela at 970-471-0672
The next open enrollment period for 2015 private health insurance is Nov. 15 through Feb. 15, 2015.
