Week of May 2, 2013

Eagle Valley High School students competed against staff members in a game of donkey basketball. Funds raised from the event went to Project Graduation for the Class of 2013.



The Eagle Valley High School Foundation presented the school with new trophy cases.

Two additional stop signs were installed at the Eagle Ranch intersection of Capitol Street and Founders Avenue, making it a four-way stop.

Week of April 30, 2009

Eagle was gearing up to celebrate bike month beginning with a Cycledelic Bike Scavenger Hunt for families that was followed by a local barbecue.

Eagle hosted an Indoor Flea Market on Broadway.

The Eagle business and citizen group One Eagle sponsored a logo design contest.

Seniors at Eagle Valley High School prepared for the last day of school on May 1.

Week of April 29, 2004

Eagle resident Julie Thurston, with the support of her adoptive family, met her birth mother for the first time and the Enterprise chronicled her experience.

A telephone pole broke in three pieces resulting in a mess of telephone and power lines on Castle Drive in Eagle.

The Bond and McCoy Volunteer Fire Department helped a neighbor at Rancho Del Rio with a controlled burn that got out of control.

20 YEARS AGO

Week of April 29, 1994

Lights at the Eagle ballfield at Town Park were officially shut off as the new fields at the Western Eagle County Metropolitan Recreation District complex by the Eagle County Fairgrounds opened for play. A new trail to the fields was being constructed by the county to allow pedestrian access to the site.

After several months of requests from decision-makers, Adam’s Rib developer Fred Kummer agreed to reveal plans for all of his land holdings on Brush Creek.

Developers of the proposed Cotton Ranch project in Gypsum persuaded the town council to reconsider annexation of the project.

30 YEARS AGO

Week of May 3, 1984

Jeff Myers and Tessa Roads were crowned king and queen at the EVHS prom.

Fred Nelson, Michelle New, Zella Lindersmith, and George McCollum were recognized as “Teachers of the Year” at Colorado Mountain College.

Rena Scholfield of McCoy was a finalist for the 1984 Miss Colorado National Teenager Pageant.

40 YEARS AGO

Week of May 2, 1974

Wolcott rancher Leonard Horn drove his cattle herd down Howard Street in Eagle, on the way to summer pasture.

The Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities was proposing to stage a “Chautauqua” style event in Eagle — a traveling show of artists, musicians and other performers.

When Eagle County Sheriff Jim Seabry and Undersheriff Tom Davis drove to a Gypsum residence to discuss a civil issue, they found a man unloading eight marijuana plants from his truck. He was charged with possession of marijuana.

50 YEARS AGO

Week of April 30, 1964

A 10-year-old boy who had run away from home held Eagle County Sheriff Jim Seabry at bay by firing shots from a .22 rifle when discovered hiding northeast of Eagle near the Eagle River. The saga ended when the boy’s father, who had been summoned to the scene, fired three shots at his son in order to scare him. One shot hit the boy in the back, causing a flesh wound. The boy was reported to be in good condition at the hospital.

Miss Arnetta Clark was the guest of honor at a bridal shower hosted by Mrs. Fred Dice and Mrs. Sadie Macdonell. Miss Clark was engaged to Herb Eaton.

60 YEARS AGO

Week of April 29, 1954

School recognition was the hot topic. Of considerable controversy was the proposed “one school plan” which would have put all high school students from Red Cliff to Dotsero into a single, large, modern school to be located at a yet-to-be determined place. Gordon Orris led the committee that was promoting the proposal. Orris Albertson headed a committee that was proposing a two-school plan, with one school serving the Minturn/Red Cliff areas and another serving the Eagle/Gypsum areas.

70 YEARS AGO

Week of April 28, 1944

The Eagle High School senior class was presenting a play titled “The Dave Beauty Ranch.”

The Eagle County commissioners agreed to work toward establishing a means of transportation for waste paper in a government-related salvage program.

Pfc. Herman Schultz was home on leave, visiting his parents. He was stationed at Camp Robinson, CA with the infantry.

80 YEARS AGO

Week of May 4, 1934

The Enterprise reported a rumor that a dredge mining operation was to be started on East and West Lake Creeks. The effort was prompted by the discovery of placer gold on the Norgaard Ranch several years previously.

Some Denver-based miners were sinking a shaft at Bariety on West Lake Creek. Billy Colerick was working a claim at the head of West Lake Creek.
