Eagle-Vail golf director earns awards

EAGLE-VAIL — The Colorado PGA Section, West Chapter announced its annual awards for 2015 in late March, naming Ben Welsh, director of golf for the Eagle-Vail Golf Club, Golf Professional of the Year and Merchandiser of the Year in the Public Facilities category. Welsh currently serves as the secretary of the Colorado Section PGA.

“I am extremely honored to have been chosen by my fellow professionals. The West Chapter is made up of great people who are all wonderful golf professionals and I am proud to represent them,” Welsh said.

The Colorado PGA West Chapter Golf Professional of the Year is awarded to a PGA member for overall performance including leadership and service and promotion of the game of golf. Overall performance at the member’s facility, level of service to the PGA Section and image as a golf professional are some of the criteria considered for this award.



The West Chapter Merchandiser of the Year award recognizes Colorado PGA members who have demonstrated superior skills as merchandisers in the promotion of golf. Awarded in three categories, public, private and resort. Planning, purchasing, merchandising techniques, staffing, inventory, displays and community involvement are some of the criteria considered for this award.

“The Merchandiser of the Year award is really a team recognition and is shared by our entire staff at Eagle-Vail. Our mission in merchandising is to create revenue for the community by offering the most desirable assortment of golf and lifestyle merchandise for our customers,” Welsh said.



About Welsh

Welsh was raised in Fort Collins, and grew up playing golf at City Park Nine, a public course. He worked in Denver for five years and two different courses and came to Eagle-Vail Golf Club in 2005. He served as head professional for four years and as director of golf for the past six years.

The Colorado PGA West Chapter is comprised of all golf courses and PGA golf professionals west of the Eisenhower Tunnel and includes courses as far north as Steamboat Springs, west to Grand Junction and south to Durango.

“I am honored to represent the community of Eagle-Vail and proud of both of these awards. I am excited for the 2016 golf season and all the exciting summer activities and events we have planned,” Welsh said.
