The New Orleans Suspects play free show in Minturn Thursday

Minturn — The New Orleans Suspects will perform in Minturn at Little Beach Amphitheater Thursday night for the weekly concert series.

It’s been said that the musicians of New Orleans are all members of the one gigantic band that break up into smaller groups on a nightly basis. If this were really the case, the New Orleans Suspects would be in a class all its own. This group is compromised of musicians with experience and versatility that rival any other band that the city has ever produced. Band members are “Mean Willie Green” from the Neville Brothers on drums, Reggie Scanlan of the Radiators on the bass, Jake Eckert on guitar from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Kevin Harris on saxophone is a founding member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and tickling the keys is CR Gruver from the national touring act Outformation. These cats are all New Orleans, all the time. Expect originals and New Orleans rock and funk classics.

“We are very excited to bring this band back to the valley,” said Terry Armistead, concert organizer. “They played at Montanas last winter to a sold out crowd!”

The band was formed in 2009 as the result of a jam session at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. The chemistry was so undeniable that they decided to pursue it as a side project. Start with members of three of the top bands to come out of New Orleans, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators, and The Dirty Dozen - then add a saxophonist who was James Brown’s horn director for 12 years, and a keyboard player with extraordinary talent, and you have The New Orleans Suspects. With well over a century of touring experience combined, this is a real band with genuine musicianship and more seasoning than any of New Orleans’ greatest dishes. They have been making an enormous impact with their live performances across the country, and have established themselves as one of the brightest new lights out of the Crescent City. Funky drumbeats, greasy wailing saxophones, razor-sharp guitar playing, rollicking piano and swampy organ swells, strutting bass lines and tight vocal harmonies make this band stand above the rest. Just as the wind shifts over the Mississippi River, so does the music the band creates - strains of Dr John and the Nevilles, The Meters and Allan Toussaint, brass bands and piano legends, hot nights and sweat-soaked streets, all combine in an original way to create what is now known as The New Orleans Suspects

The concert starts at 6 p.m. The concert is rain or shine. Cans of 3.2 percent alcohol beer are allowed, but there is no glass allowed in the park. After the concerts, the fun continues with the “After the Beach” parties sponsored by Mountain Beverage and Coors in town at Kirby Cosmos, The Saloon and Magustos. Many more shows are slated for August including Paper Bird, The Congress, BLT and Jaden Carlson.
