Hotel Colorado tree and holiday decorations display

Hotel Colorado Tree Display

Through Jan. 12, the famed holiday lights at the Hotel Colorado will be displayed.

The massive display shows off 250,000 lights with an assortment of Christmas scenes. The gingerbread house-themed Legends Café is also coated with real gingerbread.

Don’t miss the display that prompted Travel and Leisure magazine to single out the hotel as one of America’s best places to stay during the holiday season.

A Legacy of Art

Garfield County Libraries and Colorado Mountain College ArtShare present “A Legacy of Art” at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library.

CMC ArtShare is committed to improving the quality of education through collaboration in the arts with emphasis on the values that civic engagement bring to students. Haroutin (Ariel ) Pascal Agemian was born in Brussa, Turkey and his artwork will be displayed until January 30.

What’s up at Sunlight?

Sunlight Ski Resort is hosting a skier/snowboarder appreciation day on Friday, Jan. 10.

Day lift tickets will be $20 and all proceeds go to United Way of Garfield County.

Sunlight is also hosting the Dynafit Heathen Challenge (COSMIC Race) on Saturday, Jan. 11, which is a mountaineering race around the side of Sunlight. Participants need to bring a shovel, probe and beacon. There will be prizes for everyone, with the big ones going to the top competitors. All ages are welcome and race time is 8 a.m. Register at: www.cosmicski.com

Attention students and teachers — Sunday, Jan. 12 is student/teacher appreciation day at Sunlight.

Teachers ski for free that day and students are only $20. Bring school identification.

Prime Sledding spots

Red Mountain and Four Mile Park offer Glenwoods prime free sledding hills.

Inner tubes, toboggans, plastic discs or even Flexible Flyers regulary speed down the hills. For anyone who would rather say on his or her feet, the Hanging Lake trail is open during the winter.

Train love

Love trains? The Glenwood Railroad Museum is located in the east wing of the historic Glenwood Springs Railroad Station.

Check out the large-scale model railroad featuring Rio Grande steam and diesel-powered trains along with a gallery of historic, regional railroad photos.

The museum has a collection of memorabilia and artifacts from the seven railroads in the Roaring Fork Valley.

CMC art show

Glenwood painter Andrew Roberts-Gray’s new exhibit is titled “Ink Paintings,” and the collection embodies a new direction for the artist.

His latest work is now on display at the CMC gallery at 802 Grand Ave.

The exhibit’s opening reception is free and open to the public. The reception is planned Friday, Jan. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. The show hangs through Feb. 27.
