ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colorado – Officials say a grass fire in Rocky Mountain National Park has burned 40 acres.

Park spokesman Larry Frederick says the Onahu fire on the park’s west side is not threatening structures, campgrounds or visitors, although some campers 5 miles north of the blaze decided to leave.

The fire was spotted Saturday, and has since grown from 2 acres to 40. Officials had closed Trail Ridge Road near the Grand Lake Entrance Station as the fire burned on both sides of the road but one lane had reopened by midday Sunday.

Frederick tells KUSA-TV in Denver that the cause of the fire is under investigation but was likely human-caused. The blaze is not connected to another blaze burning in a northeast area of the park.
