MINTURN – A witness reported smoke and fire in the Tigiwon Road area of Minturn on Wednesday at 3:56 p.m. The Eagle River Fire Protection District, the United States Forest Service and the Minturn Police Department responded to the scene of the fire.
Protection District Battalion Chief Cipriano Tafoya reported that the fire, which was less than 1/10th of an acre, was quickly contained and extinguished. The district was able to rapidly contain the fire due to the reporting of the fire when it was in the beginning stages and a subsequent quick response by the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Eagle River Fire Protection District at 970-748-9665.
Another small fire, started by someone welding, was reported Wednesday in Gypsum. That fire was also quickly extinguished.
The fires serve as a reminder for local residents to remain cautious this summer. Today marks the first day of Stage 2 fire restrictions throughout Eagle County and the White River National Forest, including all land between the Utah state line and the Continental Divide.
The restrictions prohibit openfires, campfires, outdoor smoking, explosives, chainsaws and other mechanical equipment unless they have spark arrestors, and chemical-pressurized fire extinguishers, welding and other activities. For a full list of restrictions visit www.coemergency.com.
