EAGLE COUNTY, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY ” Flooding from the west side of Highway 24 and onto the road put Colorado Department of Transportation workers to work early Thursday morning.

A four-man crew spent six hours digging ditches to drain nearly a half-foot of standing water from the road.

Department of Public Health and Environment spokesman Warren Smith said the flooding came from a surge pond at the Eagle Mine Water Treatment Plant which normally holds contaminated water before it’s treated.

At this point we don’t believe it poses immediate risk to human health,” Smith said.

A plant supervisor is investigating the flood and taking samples of the water to ensure it is melted snow as the department believes.
