MINTURN – Part of the mission of the Minturn Community Fund is to find ways to bring the community together. The easiest way to do that is to offer events for free to the public so that it’s accessible to all. July is packed with free things to do in Minturn, and as always, open to all in the Vail Valley.”Movies, music, and kids activities are just a few ways we bring the community together. We hope to save people some money in some ways, so they can spend it in other ways; like lunch at Magustos, shopping at The Scarab, or a guitar at Minturn Music,” said Jodi Jahrling, executive director of the Minturn Community Fund. “The goal is to get people out of their houses and in to Minturn to meet their neighbors and have a good time.”The third installment of Movies in the Park at Little Beach Park is started by the Singer Songwriter Series is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with Kevin Heinz. The movie starts right after with the black and white classic, “42nd Street.” Free music, free movie, free popcorn, free drinks and a door prize all made possible by generous sponsors and volunteers. The free series runs every other Saturday.Every Saturday through the Summer is Yoga in the Park at Little Beach Park & Amphitheater at 9:30 a.m. Be sure to dress in layers and bring your own mat. The views are breathtaking and the instructors are professionals. Minturn Music hosts Mini Music Makers every other Tuesday for kids, with the next session slated for July 10 at 10 a.m. with saxophonist Brent Gordon. The musicians lead the kids in music and an activity.Minturn Music also hosts a Community Jam at Kirby Cosmo’s BBQ Bar on July 18 at 7 p.m. The Minturn Community Fund buys the appetizers and every one has an opportunity to jam with musicians of all levels. The Minturn Community Garden is hosting a Children’s Garden Activity on July 19 at 10 a.m. at the garden. A fun activity followed by a ladybug release will take place.Every Friday the Minturn Community fund hosts Free Popcorn Friday from 3 to 4 p.m.And the Minturn Concerts in the Park series continues throughout the summer every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Little Beach Park & Amphitheater. Hazel Miller will be at the park on July 12 followed by an after party – “After the Beach” at Kirby Cosmo’s BBQ Bar.Other free opportunities include a book exchange at the Minturn Community Fund space, snacks, drinks, “Minturn Monday” – where they give away a household staple the last Monday of every month; for July its jugs of lemonade, and “The Giving Tree” in front of the space, which is currently sharing tennis balls that are “free to fun seekers only.”While most of the events we plan are free, we still encourage people to donate and sponsor to make it all possible, Jahrling said. Our next fundraiser takes place on July 23 at 6 p.m. at our space. We need help filling our wall with “Minturn Masterpieces.” Hosted by Holtz Design Studio, $20 per person helps purchase the canvases, paint and brushes.
