January 20, 2010
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – Valley View Hospital now houses the region’s first Cancer Resource Center as part of the hospital’s expanding cancer treatment center, providing a range of information to patients and their families.
The center has been available to the public since September of last year. An official grand opening is planned for Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the upper lobby at Valley View.
Cancer survivors, physicians and other health care practitioners, volunteers, as well as the general public, are invited to attend.
The Cancer Resource Center is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the Valley View Hospital Cancer Center.
“The Cancer Resource Center will be a vital link in the entire cancer experience, not only for those diagnosed, but also for their families and caregivers,” Brenda Grumley, promotions chair for the center, said in a press release announcing the grand opening.
“Cancer Resource Centers are typically located within cancer treatment facilities, with the goal of furnishing their patients with the most up-to-date information possible about their individual cancer, treatment options and other resources available to them,” she explained. “The center helps support better decision making by making available high quality, timely, understandable information to newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families or caregivers.”
