Government tracker: Vail firefighters recognized for efforts

Issue: Awards recognizing great efforts during a Sept. 22 arson fire.

Who they talked to: Vail Police Chief Dwight Heninger and Vail Fire Chief Mark Miller gave certificates of recognition to police office Dan Torgerson and resident Mark Walter for their efforts in the early morning hours of Sept. 22, when a man allegedly tried to set fire to a townhome at which an ex-girlfriend was staying.

Issue: Recognition of the town for its work on the area trail system.

Who they talked to: Resident Dick Cleveland. Cleveland, along with ECO Trails director Ellie Caryl, presented the town with the county department’s “Trail Supporter of the Year” award.

“I wish every community in this valley felt that trails were as important as police, fire and roads,” Cleveland said.
