Gypsum Fall Festival features haunted maze

The haunted maze returns to Gypsum’s Fall Festival in Lundgren Theater Park from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.”There will be a not-so-scary tour for little kids from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and a scary tour after that,” said Gypsum Special Events Coordinator Marie Sanders. “The early tour will be haunted by characters such as Dorothy and the Wicked Witch from ‘Wizard of Oz’ and characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ The late tour will have things like zombie cheerleaders.”Costumes for both tours are still needed, and anyone interested is invited to contact Ann Olin, of the Porchlight Players Community Theater group, at email@example.com to sign up.So far, some themes in the maze include a pirate room, mad scientist room, graveyard, spider room and mad chainsaw room.”Zombie pirates, science experiment people (i.e., those who’ve had experiments done on them), graveyard residents, etc., are all welcome,” Olin said. “You need to provide your own costumes, but we have lots of accessories to help if you need it.”This year, hosted tours will take five to six people at a time through the maze to keep things in an orderly fashion. Tours will take 10 to 15 minutes.A suggested $2 admission to the maze benefits several Eagle Valley High School teams and clubs that are helping with the events. Everything else – including 14 carnival games, hot dogs and popcorn – is free. The band Already Gone plays from 6 to 8:30 p.m.”This is the seventh Fall Festival but only the second year we’ve done the haunted maze,” Sanders said. “Adults loved the maze last year, and we had about 2,200 (people) attend.”For more information, call Sanders at 970-524-1740.
