WOLCOTT — A Gypsum man died after a car he was driving crashed Tuesday night on U.S. Highway 6 near Wolcott.
The one-car crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m. near milepost 158, about one mile west of Wolcott.
A 1996 Honda Civic driven by 24-year-old Yonathan Serna Guerra, of Gypsum, was traveling westbound when the car traveled into the eastbound lane and then over-corrected back to the right in an attempt to travel back into the westbound lane, according to the State Patrol. The vehicle began to rotate clockwise and rotated through the westbound lane before traveling off the right side of the roadway, police said. The vehicle traveled down a very steep grassy embankment and upon reaching the bottom of the embankment flipped end over end, according to police. The vehicle came to rest on its roof facing south.
Serna Guerra died from injuries he sustained during the crash, the State Patrol said. Three other passengers were transported to Vail Valley Medical Center by medical personnel to receive treatment for injuries sustained during the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
