There was an intimate live big screen showing of the 2013 Academy Awards at CineBistro at Solaris on Sunday evening in Vail. If you are the type of person who likes to go online and choose your seat for a movie or event and know what to expect in terms of atmosphere and service, then CineBistro is the place for you. This upscale venue has clean comfortable seating, digital projection, a delicious chef-created menu prepared daily and a full bar and cozy lounge. On Oscar night, a buzz was in the air and anyone with a passion for the movies and a palate for great food would enjoy spending time at this classy theatre.

Pilar and David Colleran were treated to an evening of the Oscars at CineBistro by Pilar’s father, who had enjoyed the event last year and knew his daughter would especially appreciate the Academy Awards this year because of a connection. Pilar had attended the Rhode Island School of Design with 2013 Oscar Host Seth MacFarlane where they studied illustration.

“We were in the Class of 1995,” Colleran said.

Seeing her classmate MacFarlane on the big screen hosting the Oscars must have been a thrill for Colleran. Of course, watching actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway and George Clooney win awards was fun as well.

Executive Chef Phil Barradell created a raw bar spread with the help of ice sculptor Paul Wertin who designed and sculpted an Oscar statue out of ice. Large screens in the lounge and behind the main bar streamed the Oscars and once inside the theatre the sound and energy was outstanding. This event would be a perfect night out for a book, movie or wine club or just a gathering of movie buff friends who want to be entertained without necessarily having to entertain.

CineBistro Manager Neil Fransen reminded us about an upcoming event.

“We will be hosting the Vail Film Festival from March 28-31, so look for a full line-up soon,” Fransen said.

Also, for movie-goers, be sure to arrive 30 minutes early for in-theatre dining, ask about Eagle County Resident ticket pricing and validate your parking ticket at the concierge desk.
