Jonny Mogambo brings his band to Vail Ale House Friday
Ryan Summerlin March 14, 2013
The Jonny Mogambo Band, a four-piece funk, rock, rhythm and groove outfit, will make its only public appearance in the Vail Valley this season at the Vail Ale House Friday night. In the past in Vail the Jonny Mogambo band has opened for Buckwheat Zydeco for CarniVail and the Greyboy Allstars for the Spring Back to Vail music series, and played numerous shows throughout the club scene.
The band plays everything from rock ‘n’ roll and funk jams to their own Colorado-inspired originals. Jonny Mogambo will be joined by his band members, some of the hottest players on the Colorado scene, including: Dan Schwindt on bass guitar who many know as the guitarist from the Kyle Hollingsworth Band and Kyle Comerford on drums (Sally Taylor, The Reejers). The band will joined by special guest, female vocalist Kelsey Sheba. Sheba is part of the spectacular female vocalist scene happeing on the Front Range.
The band will highlight music from its newest CD, released last April, titled “Jonny Mogambo Band Best of…So Far,” including songs like “Telluride,” “Party Goin’ On” and “Dinner in Paradise.” The songs tell stories of life in Colorado and on the road. There are also politically charged themes in some of the music that continue to be relevant today.
“This band has been coast to coast in the last year playing private parties and clubs along the way,” Mogambo said. “This is a well-defined, tight band that brings years of experience and delivers a high-energy mix of funk, rock, rhythm and blues with influences of jazz, bluegrass, ska and reggae thrown in.”
Members of this band have shared the stage with the likes of Nelson Rangell, John Popper of Blues Traveler, James Taylor, Los Lobos, Jimmy Buffet, Everclear, Edwin McCain and the Violent Femmes to name a few. The band has released six original records together and you can get them all and further information at www.JonnyMobambo.com or www.AllOccasionsMusic.com.
