Lake County schools close because of storm
January 31, 2014
Make that two snow days for Lake County schools since 1860.
The Lake County School District, early Friday morning, cancelled classes, per the recommendation of Mike McHargue, the Lake County emergency manager, citing adverse weather and significant snowfall.
The original plan was to delay Lake County classes two hours with a 10 a.m. start time.
However, after talking with various county and city entities, as well as the district operations and management department, they decided to cancel classes, said Wendy Wyman, superintendent of Lake County schools.
“Extreme weather conditions and hazardous road conditions this morning made it too hazardous for school buses to transport students,’ Wyman said.
Wyman announced the decision about 8:30 a.m.
As far as anyone can remember, it’s only the second snow day since Lake County started holding classes around 1860, when mining began in the area. The first one was 2012.
