LG Triathlon returns to Eagle in July
June 22, 2013
EAGLE — If you can swim, bike or run, you can TRI. The 5th annual LG Tri Sprint Triathlon will be held in Eagle July 13 starting at 7 a.m. The 1st annual LG Kids Triathlon will be held at the same location at 10 a.m.
This event was started to honor the memory of long-time local and Vail Valley Charitable Fund beneficiary Laura Genelin, who lost her battle with cancer in July 2008. Proceeds from the LG Tri will benefit the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, an organization that has been providing financial assistance to families in medical crisis since 1996.
Create a team with your friends or co-workers and join in on the fun. The triathlon is held at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink and includes a 500 meter swim (10 laps in the Eagle Pool), a 12 mile bike loop along Brush Creek Road and a 5K run in Eagle Ranch.
Participants are encouraged to sign up early as registration will be limited to 200 entries.
Adults who register by July 1 receive an event shirt.
An awards ceremony with prizes from many local companies and a silent auction including items such as a Vail Resorts Epic Pass, hotel stays, Rockies tickets, and more follow the race. Everyone who participates will go home with a sense of accomplishment and an event goodie bag.
The Kid’s Tri includes two age groups: 6-9 and 10-13. The 6-9 age route will be a 50-yard (1 lap) swim; 2.5-mile bike from the pool to the Eagle Park and a 500-yard run by the Eagle Pool.
The 10-13 age route will be a 100-yard (2 lap) swim; 5-mile bike (2 times on the same route) and a 1-mile run.
The LG Tri is a great way for friends to come together for a great cause, have fun and celebrate fitness and health.
This event is perfect for athletes and children of all abilities, from first time triathletes to high level experts and single event competitors who just want to get out and be active while raising money to support locals in need.
The Kids Tri is sponsored by the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink and The Parent Handbook.
“Promoting children’s physical fitness is the main goal of The Parent Handbook, so partnering with the LG Tri for the Kids’ Tri makes perfect sense,” said Alan Sandberg, owner of The Parent Handbook.
Sponsors include the Vail Valley Medical Center, The Town of Eagle, S&H Roofing, Alpine Bank, Howard Head Sports Medicine, Calvary Chapel Vail Valley, Architectural Engineering Consultants, Vail Summit Emergency Physicians, Eagle Ranch Association, The Parents Handbook and Gallegos Corporation.
