Minturn’s Lionshead Rock breaks, rolls down slope

MINTURN — Lionshead Rock looks a little less feline after a massive piece of rock broke off and crashed down just outside Minturn.
The rock broke free sometime during the weekend, after weeks of freezing and thawing worked it loose. It’s at least 30 feet wide and high, and local climbers have been bouldering on it almost since the moment it came to rest.
NO ONE INJURED
No one was injured, and the rock did not hit anything or do any damage to homes. It did destroy the railroad tracks in the area where it came to rest, however.
“There’s no lions head in Minturn any more,” said Shelly Belm, a member of the Minturn Town Council.
