Montrose police officer killed in domestic violence call

MONTROSE, Colorado – Police say a Montrose police officer was shot and killed and two of his colleagues were wounded while responding to a domestic violence call.

Montrose police Chief Tom Chinn says a man who barricaded himself in a garage behind a home shot the police officers Saturday night. Police say the suspect was also killed but it’s unclear whether authorities shot him or he shot himself. His name was not released.

The fallen officer is Sgt. David Kinterknecht, a 10-year veteran of the department. Officers Larry Witte and Rodney Ragsdale remained hospitalized Sunday morning. Chinn says they are both doing well.

It wasn’t immediately known what prompted the domestic violence call.
