MINTURN – Load the kids and a picnic up in the wagon (or your car, if you’re not a Minturnite) Saturday and head for Little Beach Park & Amphitheater in Minturn for some free family entertainment. The Minturn Community Fund is bringing back the Movies in the Park series every other Saturday this summer, and has added a new component: Music. Local singers and songwriters will have a chance to show-off their stuff before the movies begin. “Come a little early to chat with your Vail Valley neighbors,” said Jodi Jahrling, executive director of the Minturn Community Fund (MCF). “Bring a blanket, warm clothes and your dinner. We’ll provide a free evening of entertainment under the stars.”Saturday’s movie is the Disney Pixar animated film “Ratatouille,” about a likable mouse who desperately wants to be a chef. Most of the movies are family-friendly and include classics like “Grease” (set for July 21) and “Footloose” (Aug. 18). “We even pass out glow sticks and give away a door prize,” Jahrling said. “We’re always excited to bring people out to share in this beautiful, small town park and amphitheater.”Movies in the Park at Little Beach Park & Amphitheater in Minturn will run every other Saturday starting this Saturday and going until Aug. 18. Adding music to the mixThe new singer/songwriter series is sponsored by Minturn Music.”If there’s anything Minturn can be known for, its love for music,” Jahrling said. “The MCF is thrilled to bring Movies in the Park back to Minturn and the singer/songwriter series is a welcome addition.”Elli Gauthier who was recently named the winner of the regional song-writing competition hosted by the Aspen Songwriters Festival and also a member of Alibi Day and Boxcar Daisies kicks off the new singer/songwriter series Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. The evening’s movie, sponsored by Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate, “Ratatouille” (rated G), will start right after the music.Founded in June 2002, the Minturn Community Fund (MCF) is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide diverse cultural, educational, entertainment and community building events in Minturn and provide financial assistance to projects initiated by local Minturn organizations or citizen groups that benefit the Minturn community and its citizens.
