One killed, one injured in single-car crash in East Vail

VAIL — A Vail man was killed when he was swept up in an East Vail car crash early Friday morning.

Harold Waymond Adcock III, 30, “Tres” to his friends and colleagues, was dead at the scene from injuries he suffered from the one-car crash in East Vail.

Vail Police said they are still investigating how Adcock came to be involved in the accident.

He was not a passenger in the vehicle when the driver hit a bridge abutment on South Frontage Road near Aspen Lane in East Vail.

The crash left the driver with life threatening injuries, Vail police said. His name has not been released.

The driver was at the wheel of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee when he crashed. The first 911 calls rolled in at about 2:05 a.m. Friday, police said.

Adcock’s friends were devastated Friday when they heard the news.

In a prepared statement some said, “Tres loved hiking, running and all-around mountain life, and all the adventures it has to offer. He was adventurous, a loyal friend, and a bright light who will be missed.”

For the past four years, Adcock had worked at Up The Creek, a Vail Village restaurant on the banks of Gore Creek.

His colleagues at Up The Creek said he was “sweet” and “delightful.”

“He enjoyed living the mountain lifestyle. He loved hiking, camping and being with his friends,” they said.

Adcock was originally from Tennessee and had lived in the valley for some time, said Kara Bettis, Eagle County coroner.

Bettis said the cause and manner of death will be determined when an autopsy is completed Sunday morning.

Vail police said they are trying to reconstruct the accident as part of their investigation.
