Vail Daily obituary: Peter E. Lord, 1951-2015

Peter Lord passed away quietly in his home on Oct. 1, surrounded by friends, following a brave struggle with cancer.

Born Nov. 29, 1951, the son of Edwin and Doris Lord, Peter grew up in the Philadelphia area, but he graduated from Littleton High School after the family moved to Colorado. He attended Western State College and graduated from the University of Denver.

Peter found his true home in the valley. Peter’s times as the unofficial “Mayor of Edwards” and his career as a ski instructor in Vail and Lionshead offered countless opportunities to tell bad jokes and make good friends, in the valley and around the world — always with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Peter loved skiing and loved teaching it even more. He will be missed by his sisters, his many close cousins and his family of friends.

An impromptu gathering was held at the top of the mountain, and Peter’s memory took one last run.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at the Eagle Vail Pavilion on Nov. 21. Donations can be made in Peter’s name to the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, P.O. Box 1529, Vail, CO 81658.
