Vail Daily obituary: Robert Tether, 1928-2013

Dr. Robert S. Tether, 84 of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Gainesville, Ga., died July 24.

Born in Englewood, N.J., Dr. Tether was the son of the late Russell Knapp and Hazel Sloat Tether. A graduate of Oregon Medical School, Dr. Tether was a physician in the Gainesville area for more than 25 years. He was also one of the founding fathers of Lakeview Academy in Gainesville. Dr. Tether attended Grace Episcopal Church.

Dr. Tether is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Tether.

Dr. Tether and his late wife, Lou Tether, lived in the valley from 1987-1995 in their home on Bellyache Ridge. They were both active in the community. Bob served on the Design Review Board in the early ’90s.

Survivors include his son, Russell Tether, of Dallas; daughter and son-in-law Sheri and Gary Pouch, of Greenville, S.C.; and granddaughters Emma Lyne Pouch and Madison Pouch, both of Greenville, S.C.

Graveside services were held July 30 at the Alta Vista Cemetery. Rev. Philip McQueen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Bobs Trains at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, c/o Northeast Georgia Medical Foundation, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, Ga. 30501, or Lakeview Academy.
