Douglas Ray Cross was born on Sept. 1, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Ronald and Fannie (Matthews) Cross. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1968. After marrying Patricia Roush in 1973, he moved to Avon in 1979. Together they were married for 25 years and had three children: Matthew Douglas Cross (Hartford, Connecticut), Lucas Adam Edward Cross (Gypsum), and Patricia Amy Denniger (Denver).

Doug spent his entire professional career in construction and loved to tell stories about building some of the earliest structures at the resorts in the valley.

He loved music, the Colorado outdoors, the sport of wrestling and following his grandkids to their events. He never lost touch with his inner child and consequently never forgot how to have good, old-fashioned fun. He was always game for a new adventure and liked to include others in his plans. Doug had wonderful laugh and contagious smile.

Douglas will be deeply missed by his children: Matthew, Lucas (Sara), Patricia (Andrew); four grandchildren: Colby, Karolina, Caleb and Conrad; siblings and many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one nephew and numerous extended family members.
