Vail Daily field report: There’s as much as 5 inches in spots, and it’s still coming down

Weather: Snowing, and not too cold with temps about 25 degrees

Liftline status: Nothing

Run of the day: Blue Sky Basin just opened Thursday, Friday’s new snow is probably mixing in nicely with the untouched stuff there, of which there’s still plenty.

Breakdown: A surprise storm is dropping lots of snow on Vail Mountain, so get out and enjoy it! But be careful, here’s a story from John LaConte from this morning: “Somehow, in between riding from the top of Gondola One and getting to the top of Chair 4, a snowy ice layer adhered itself to the bottom of my board, and I fell getting off Chair 4 as my board wasn’t sliding on the snow. The same thing happened to several people in front of and behind me. We all got out our Epic Passes and began furiously scraping it off before hitting the slopes for our first runs in the new snow.”

Snowcast: The National Weather service is reporting there’s a chance an 80 percent chance the snow will continue all day, and a 30-50 percent chance it will continue through Sunday.
