On the Hill: Mushroom Bowl storm chasing
July 19, 2013
Today’s activity: Mushroom Bowl storm chasing
Conditions: With summer vehicle access now limited in the popular sidecountry area of Vail Mountain called “Mushroom Bowl,” summer visits up Mill Creek Road to the Benchmark aren’t as frequent. But on Sunday, hundreds of runners will pass through the area on the annual Vail Half Marathon, a grueling test of endurance that is closer to 14 miles than a true half marathon. It’s a great place for bird watching, wildflower viewing and storm cloud observation.
Today’s weather: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. — National Weather Service
